Long gone are the days of chasing food trucks, knowing only their location a few hours before thanks to their Twitter accounts. It’s almost as if the novelty of food trucks has gone all-together. This is not necessarily a bad thing, though. Food truck parks have given culinary freedom and creativity to food trucks all over the nation…and not to mention, hitting up places like Spark Social on a regular basis is easier than hunting down a truck through the streets of downtown. A few years ago, Spark’s sister venue, SoMa StrEAT Food Park, permanently set up shop in the center of SoMa, joining the ranks of Off The Grid. Soma StrEAT and Spark and more reliably permanent options rather than waiting for seasonal Off The Grid’s Fort Mason or Twilight at the Presidio to roll though.

Spark Social has two shifts for food trucks to rotate through: the lunch shift and the dinner shift. Though they work with over 150 gourmet food trucks, recent frequent appearances include Adam’s Grub Truck, Go Jojo’s Mojo (which serves a Korean fusion burrito the size of a small child, in case you were interested), Bacon Bacon SF, and Firetrail Pizza.

But this food park has more than just trucks – there are multiple fire pits, games like jumbo jenga and foosball, booze, and free s’mores. For those who have larger parties, you can also reserve fire pits for maximum s’more enjoyment. The s’mores are served up in mason jars, how very San Francisco.

Overall, the vibe can definitely be described as a “neighborhood block party,” dogs are welcome and everyone is friendly. Kids running around and climbing all over the repurposed double decker tour bus, large groups casually hanging out as if in a good friend’s backyard, and pitchers of sangria to keep your insides warm if Karl settles in a little early during the dinner shift – this place is all about good food and chill vibes just like San Francisco should be. If you want to catch a Giant’s game, SoMa StrEAT food park has television screens more equipped for that. If you want to just kick back after a day of work with some good company and good vibes, Spark Social awaits.
