On My Block season 2 is officially hitting Netflix on March 29 as confirmed by a new video clip.  The coming-of-age series was a breakout hit when it debuted last year. Fans were elated to learn about the show’s renewal considering the mind-blowing cliffhanger at the end of the first season. Nearly a year later, viewers will finally get answers.

On My Block was created by Lauren Iungerich (Awkward), Eddie Gonzalez, and Jeremy Haft (All Eyez On Me). The series follows a group of teens from an inner-city Los Angeles neighborhood as their friendship is tested when they begin high school. Monse (Sierra Capri), Cesar (Diego Tinoco), Ruby (Jason Genao), and Jamal (Brett Gray) are lifelong friends, but their new chapter in life is starting to affect their relationships - not to mention the arrival of Olivia (Ronni Hawk). The series is comedic in nature but it also dives into important topics involving gang violence, immigration, and teen romance. Genao is a Netflix veteran, having also starred in Netflix’s The Get Down.

Earlier this month, Netflix confirmed that On My Block season 2 would hit the streaming service in the coming weeks. It joins The OA as popular series set to return for their second seasons in March. The “Cold Opening” video clip announced the premiere date of March 29th while also providing some key insight into the upcoming season. The series is a perfect binge for those looking for a TV show with a young cast at the helm similar to that of Stranger Things.

The first season’s finale featured shocking final moments as a rival gang member’s of Cesar’s opened fired on the dancefloor of Olivia’s quinceañera. Ruby and Olivia were hit by the gunfire and taken by ambulances with their fates unknown. The new video clip includes a montage of memorials of those killed by gun violence before hinting at the fate of Ruby and Olivia.

The footage suggests that at least one of the teens doesn’t survive. Monse and Cesar are shown to be dressing for a funeral as indicated by the black attire. Ruby’s family also look to be preparing for some kind of memorial. His mother and grandmother seem to break down at the sight of a photograph of Ruby and Olivia. Considering Ruby opens his eyes at the very end of the clip, all signs are pointing to Olivia being the person that the group is mourning.

The loss of Olivia would make sense since On My Block primarily focuses on the friendship of Monse, Cesar, Ruby, and Jamal. This heartbreaking event would undoubtedly affect each and every member of the squad while also forcing them back together in the aftermath of the event. Cesar will surely carry the guilt as he was the target of the violence. It will be interesting to see how the community responds to gang violence and whether Cesar takes a stand for his neighborhood.

On My Block season 2 premieres Friday March 29 on Netflix.
