iOS users have been able to access Opera’s free VPN service since early 2016, and now Android users can get in on the fun, too. As revealed by TechCrunch, Opera has officially launched its free virtual private network, or VPN, for Android devices. The whole thing is based on the acquisition of SurfEasy that Opera pulled off in 2014, and it allows for unlimited VPN access on a mobile device, free of charge. With the VPN it will allow Android users to bypass restrictions based on location, so users can appear to be in places like the United States or Canada, even if they aren’t really there. Opera promotes safety as one reason to use a VPN, noting that the feature will allow users to block ad trackers. The service will also let users test their Wi-Fi connection’s security, running a security test that will showcase any potential issues.
